A Letter to Past, Present and Future Disney Cast Members

Dear Disney Cast Members of the past, present and future,

I’m writing to you in a time of need. This might seem impossible due to the current circumstances, but it’s essential. I need you to remember the magic inside of you.

Working for Disney requires endless smiles, compassion and optimism. You know that. The company’s work ethics are what makes their employees stand out in life. Whenever someone sees Disney on a resume, it captures their attention. This is because applying for a job at The Walt Disney Company shows courage. Not only does it reflect your determination to give your all every day, but your willingness to join a company of thousands.

Whether you’ve spent years scooping ice-cream on Main Street USA or you long to experience what it’s like to be a cast member, you are important. Even if you’ve lost your job due to the pandemic, don’t doubt your self-worth for a second. Walt Disney himself would be honoured to have you wearing a company nametag with pride.

Right now, a lot of you are hurting and that’s okay. You’re allowed to feel disappointed, maybe even heartbroken, about not living your dream how you imagined it. However, your magic lives on. From memories of finishing a shift and playing in the parks, to spending days on your job application, it’s all treasured time. This journey will shape you into who you’re meant to be.

In the future, you might want to return to Disney on holiday, or as a cast member. You might not have had the chance to work there yet. I promise you, your time will come. Disney needs its cast members to function. The parks wouldn’t have cultural diversity and genuine happiness without you. For now, look after yourself. Prioritise your mental health and be kind to your mind, body and dreams. Even if you’re still working for Disney, take some time around work to re-energise. Ignite your magic.

“You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.”

Thank you for everything you do. The world is beyond grateful for who you are. Your magic is cherished, so carry it with you wherever you go.

See ya real soon,

Lauren
